Capitalism or Socialism?

If you HAD to choose one or the other (no in-between) which would you prefer?

It seems like the United States has been getting closer and closer to socialism..

I agree that the U.S. seems more and more like its slipping into socialism, with the gov't bailouts that are taking stakes in PUBLIC companies and such. But, our country really is based on capitalism.

Capitalism is the reason why people come to america, "the land of oppurtunity". People can go from being college dropouts to the the chairman of Microsoft. The american way was always capitalistic (did i make that word up? lol) but because of all these leftist crying out for equality and such we now have a fight between capitalism and socialism. I don't think we'll ever be a true "socialist" (atleast by definition) country, BUT you can expect to see more "socialist type" acts by the government before things get better.

People actually picked socialism? Wow. Didn't you read animal farm? Socialism on paper looks good, but can never ever ever ever ever work. It's impossible. At least with capitalism, the fat cats get fatter, but we get cool things like xbox 360's and PS3's.

I would PREFER socialism. I know it is a fantasy government, but we should always push for the better. I also never understood the idea that a communist society can't have nice things...

Didn't say you can't have nice things...but if you have one, your neighbors have to have one, and if they have one, their neighbors have to have them. With all this demand and not enough money being generated from the free market, your Socialist Xbox 360 will look a lot like the Super Nintendo.

Socialism is a novel idea. On paper, it eliminates the lower and upper class making everyone the same. But that's not how human beings behave. We covet what others have...which is sometimes a good thing. For instance, I always wanted to have money so I could buy stuff on a whim and care for my family. I don't have a family yet, but I went to college, got my degree, got a really nice advertising job and I'm well on my way to making it come true. With socialism, this wouldn't be possible.

Socialism was brought about from one idea...the wealthy exploit the poor to get wealthy. This isn't true today, so it wouldn't work, but the actual idea behind it was to "distribute the wealth." The poor are poor, so we give them money. Where does the money come from? The government of course. So the government gives the poor money, and where does this money come from? The wealthy...the wealthy have their money removed, given to the government, and then given to the poor. So, we take a practice that is built around the wealthy exploiting the poor and make our new practice, the poor exploiting the wealthy. Kinda sounds like what Obama wanted to do with taxes. Yikes.

Anyways, this is a video game forum, not a political forum so my rant stops there. I say we screw capitalism and socialism and go for cavemanism. You do know they used to bang a woman over the head and call her wife from there on out. It could work today...
