E74 Error now covered under the extended warranty

So, my black depression lasted a couple hours, but I'm better now, lol. The thing that gets me is that I've had an xbox since release. I'm a day one adopter. Never had RRoD or E74 errors...until the day I take off work to play 2 games I got the night before.

Anyways, yeah, it's covered under warranty...actually, the 1 year warranty (and the 3 year RRoD and E74) is still in affect until the end of January. I called Xbox yesterday and they said I could have it back in 2-3 weeks from the day i send it out...so it might not be so bad.

I went out yesterday and got Assassin's Creed for the PS3 and sold my copy of AC2 for the 360 on Half.com. Got full price back too. I have an old 360 console I'm using in the meantime that sounds like a rocket is about to take off (it's the early release model console). This should last me until I get my elite back so I can play MW2, Dragon Age, and Left 4 Dead 2...so it's not a total bust. Hopefully MS sends it back fast though.

Very true.

I just sent it back today. According to the website, I should have it back within 3 weeks, so that would put it at December 7th at the latest. That's before X-Mas, so I'm ok with that. In the meantime, I'll be playing AC2 on the PS3 and L4D2 and MW2 on the old beater 360. I'll be ok.

The last time I sent mine in it took 2 weeks and to get it back so you might see it sooner.

That would be nice. What error did you have? RRoD or E74? All it said about E74 was general hardware failure. Wonder if it's fixable or if they send you a new xbox? I would imagine they would fix most issues, but serious overheating would at least need a new motherboard.

I have had both the RRoD and E74 the last one was E74. I think both times I got the same one back.

Yeah, I figured most of the time that's what they would do. I know that the jasper chipset is the one that is supposed to have eliminated most issues, but the elite I got is the chipset right before Jasper. A lot of the arcade consoles that were on store stands were jasper when I got mine, but I got the elite.

Yeah thats what happened to me to when I got it back the first time they told me that overheating (RRoD) shouldn't be a problem then came the E74

Remove the motherboard (see you tube for instructions)

Remove X clamps

Remove heat sinks

Remove gunk so that the surface of the chips and heat sinks are shiny and clean

Put silver thermal compound on chips

Refit heat sinks and X clamps

(may need to replace compound every few years)

No thanks. I'm not about to take apart my 360 and do work to it. I'll let MS do that for me...I did pay enough for the machine, they should cover stuff like this.
