Default Gamertag

Okay I have question that could be potentially a very stupid question. Can I transfer my gamertag + all my stuff from it (games played, gamerscore etc.) to another HDD or is it limited to one HDD.

You can transfer it. There is an option within the dashboard to "recover gamertag" which is what you would use to move your stuff over to a new hard drive. You just need the e-mail address and password that you used when you signed up for Xbox LIVE.

Okay so this is what I kind of wanna use it for I just bought COD4 used and it didn't work then my friend said he would let me borrow his to download it to the HDD. So I got this thought "If I rented games figured out if I liked them or not then just downloaded them to my HDD turned them back in I would basically get a game for 8 bucks not bad. Then I would buy a new HDD when I ran out of room or delete an old game that I don't play any more." So if I could recover my gamertag as I move from one HDD to another why not.

Bad idea?

It's not a bad idea, but Microsoft is one step ahead of you. Even though the game is installed to your hard drive, you still need to have the disc in the 360 in order for it to boot!

It may help you if your disc is damaged, because you can use your friends good disc to install the game to your hard drive and then the game will run off the hard drive. You can use your damaged disc in the 360 when you get it back to your house, but that wont matter that the disc is damaged because the disc is just in there to boot the game. After the game starts, it runs off the hard drive

The game will still have to reference the disc throughout different parts of the game, so it's not a 100% guarantee that it'll work, but your chances are good!

also just to point out that Microsoft released this to make your 360 run faster and quieter, but you do need the disc ( basically pointless )

i would also suggest not recovering your gamertag on another console ( not sure if its just me or not ) but i got up to 12k gamerscore on another xbox and with live aswell and when i transferred it back to mine i lost 4k. Just a word of warning

Yes and no. You don't need to have a Gold account or anything like that, but you would need to at least register a GamerTag on the Xbox website for a free LIVE account. You wont be able to play any games over LIVE without Gold, but at least you would be able to use LIVE to get updates, recover GamerTags, ect.
