pentuim 4???

im building a desktop for myself and i was wondering if a pentuim 4 i dont do any gaming on my computer but i will be burning alot (dvds and cds) will a pentuim 4 be ok

Yeah, you'll be straight with a P4, but those are old now... do you already have one lined up with someone to get it or buy it? Because they are getting hard to find. You can pick one up off Newegg here, but if you're going to do that, do it fast before they're gone. This is the last P4 Newegg has on their website!! And as you can see, that is OEM going for $79.99 (not retail). Also, the P4 is a socket 478, so you're going to have some trouble getting a decent socket 478 motherboard for that CPU (seeing as how those are just as old now as well).

Honestly, if you're going to go with Intel (instead of AMD) you should go with the newer Intel CPU's wich are a socket LGA 775. You can pick up this dual core CPU for only $69.99 and it's Retail (not OEM), so because its retail and not OEM it comes with the heatsink and everything you need. If you go with that $79.99 Intel P4 OEM you'll also have to buy a heatsink and fan separately... so it's gonna cost ya even more than $79.99. Also, with this LGA 775 CPU you will have a MUCH better selection of motherboards to choose from and not only that, its faster than the P4 and cheaper. If you wanted to, this would run video games decently.

If you want my honest HONEST opinion... screw Intel and go with AMD.
