Game of the Year - 2009

It's that time of the year again, time when every video game site out there puts out their top games of th year. Usually, it's voted on by staff from a website, but not here...no, we're letting you decide what should be named the game of the year and other subsequent awards. I figured I would create one thread for Game of the Year since that is the biggest and this will act as the main thread. You may see some other threads pop up throughout the site within this forum with other polls. Vote on those and in January, I'll tally everything up and post an article on the front tab. The article will document what GamersThrone.com saw as their favorite/worst/most creative, etc. games of the year.

Within each thread, you can also chat up why you thought a certain game was your game of the year. So, get to voting...I think we can have a lot of fun with this!

I personally voted for MW2 because the game has a very nice story line within its single-player plus the added addition of "Special Ops" which allows you and a friend to go crazy in different missions and of course one of the best multiplayer experiences to date, though flawed (but what game isnt) the game is extremely fun and can entertain most video game fans for hours.

I knew MW2 was going to win this category, but damn...am I the only one who didn't vote for it?

I had to vote for Modern Warfare 2 for one reason and one reason only! The game has only been out a month and I already have more than 75 hours logged playing this game and it'll probably be 100+ hours by the end of this year. So how could I not vote for MW2? The last game I played for that many hours was GTA IV, but that was 2008 and over the course of a 3-4 month period.

I respect that. And you are voting correctly. What I can't stand is how on other sites people just vote for stuff just to vote for it. They will go with the flow or get caught up in the bandwagon on console steretypes.

Uncharted 2 got my vote because A) I played it a lot, but also B) it's the future of gaming. I really hope you guys get a chance to see it on a PS3 because it will literally blow you away. The game is hands down the best game of the year and blows everything else away in pure action, graphics, etc. The multiplayer is even top notch (although 3rd person, so an aquired taste).

So - if you know someone who has a PS3, they will have this game, go check it out. If they don't, steal their PS3 because they don't deserve it.

Man i wanna play Uncharted so bad but i dont have a PS3 and my only friend who has one only plays sports games so we would not have it, correct me if im wrong but didnt it win Game of the Year @ the VGA's?

Yeah, it did. But, GameTrailers.com and N4G.com have been known to be very PS3 friendly just like Kotaku.com is very 360 heavy. It's almost blatant sometimes. So that sort of adds another level of frustration to these things. Fans flock to certain forums and when a site does a contest like that (like the VGA's from GameTrailers.com) you're getting a majority of one type of fan. Doesn't mean you shouldn't do the contest, just something to keep in mind when looking at the results.

I'll be surprised if it wins a bunch of sites throughout the internet. Any game that comes out on the PS3 suffers the curse of obscurity. It may win game of the year, but there will be a lot of gamers who never see it/touch it/feel it, etc. My heart goes out to those people. If I were Santa, I'd do a mass exodus to wal-mart and take PS3's to everyone's homes to play Uncharted.

...I'd be back on December 30th to pick up the check for the system though or break some knee caps.

i've got a ps3 but i never really use it for games, mainly because i live for the online and ps3 online is crap.

anyway

I voted for mw2, mainly because of mw1 and how much they have changed. most games only change one or two things, improve the story, add 1 more game mode and make the online more confusing, but mw2 has changed loads. my favourit thing has to be the tags for when you kill someone, which if i can remember i saw on another game ( not sure tho )
