Awesome idea. One spot for all the talks about the game is a great idea. I made a video post that documents every trailer from conception of the game to the release trailer. Check it out here: Celebrating the Release of Modern Warfare 2

I'll be picking the game up tomorrow after work. I paid for it yesterday when I traded a game in for some deal they had. So, Dragon Age Origins will take the backseat for a few days while I play through MW2.

I was going to make a post about this, but figured it would get more visibility here.

Kotaku.com just did a big unboxing of the Modern Warfare 2 peripherals for the systems. Check out the article here:

Lot of reviews are making their way onto the internet. So far, the game is getting 90+ scores (which we all knew it would). Something I'm finding interesting though, a lot of people are complaining about the multiplayer. Most are saying that the new deathstreaks (die enough times in a row and get a health boost, end someones kill streak get a newer weapon.) make the game waaaay too noob friendly. I find that interesting as I would think MW2 would cater to the hardcore fanbase.

A lot of reviews are saying that Spec Ops mode is the best thing to happen to Co-Op gaming since Left 4 Dead. I think that mode is going to have a lot of promise. Here are some quotes from the reviews I read.

it seems a bit odd that Infinity Ward would implement concepts so obviously geared towards new players who might buy the game instead of focusing on catering to the core fans who most definitely will. The first thing I immediately noticed was the addition of an aim-assist mechanic which let's you auto-lock onto to the nearest enemy by pressing the left trigger; you can easily cycle through multiple tangos with a few trigger pulls. I turned it off after about five minutes because it took the skill out of the game. The new Death Perks will also have some players screaming conspiracy: die enough times in a row without getting a kill in multiplayer and you get a perk such as a temporary health boost; the unfortunate downside is that skilled players who rarely die with never benefit from them. Oh, and if you break a cold streak by getting a kill, you get a bonus XP boost, which is just more gasoline on the "rewarding n00bs for sucking" campfire.

Spec Ops: If you're not quite ready to venture into the foulmouthed multiplayer noob-slaying frenzy that is Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer mode, the cooperative multiplayer Spec Ops mode offers a stellar two-player experience. Most missions can be played solo—not that you'd really want to—but a few require a buddy. And they're the best of the lot, putting one on the ground, the other in hovering aircraft—an AC-130 in one, an attack helicopter in the other—raining down gunfire upon swarms of computer-controlled foes as the ground-based player works his way across a map. Some of the later Spec Ops challenges can be painfully hard, particularly on Hardened or Veteran difficulty, but most of the challenges are a treat to play with a friend.

What Just Happened? Brush up on your Call of Duty 4 single-player if you care about the story-driven events of the sequel, because the delivery of Modern Warfare 2's plot assumes you know it well. The game's single-player campaign can be scattershot and confusing, mostly as a result of the game's hastily delivered orders via intermission and comm transmissions. At the end of the campaign, I was left wondering what the hell just went down and the key players of Modern Warfare 2 got wrapped up in this conflict. The game's campaign mode also suffers from treading on territory that feels familiar to the first, with some storytelling tricks feeling recycled or just plain overdone. Just how many times can we sprint to an escape helicopter anyway?
One thing I am a little distraught over though is the campaign length. IGN said that it took them under 5 hours to beat the single player. That sucks. Single player is my favorite so I was hoping it was longer. Eh, I guess I'll just hop into multiplayer faster and be able to get back to other games sooner.

So, the general consensus, multiplayer will take some time to get used to, but is fun. Some older players may not like it as much as the newer from the get go. Single player is great but it's really short and you need to know what's going on from part 1 and spec ops is awesome. I'll be reading reviews and watching movies all day as I wait for 4pm to roll around.

And...someone is ready for the launch of modern warfare.

This is rapper extraordinaire Ice-T if you didn't know already...he's hardcore obsessed with Modern Warfare.

I got home last night about 1 and was only able to play for 30 mins before the wife got upset and made me go to bed. Any ways I didn't start the campaign I want to do that when I have a decent amount of time to devote. I was able to play a round and a half of MP. It was different the maps I played were derailed and a sub map. Derailed is huge, and the sub map was tiny. I was able to see some of the new kill streak bonuses but not use them (only got a kill streak of 4). I did however notice that you get bonus ex for things like ending a kill streak, long distance shots, and the ending of your own losing streak. I didn't notice anything about being able to lock on to a target by pulling the left trigger I probably didn't play long enough. I will have to stay off the site for the next few days though, I wont be able to play today as me and my wifes agreement(I can't play on her nights off). So good luck to everyone and talk to you in a few days.

Do you guys know if you can customize your look in multiplayer? I didn't see anything about that online. Like, unlock face masks or helmets, etc? Is that possible? I knew about the exp for ending kill streaks and long distance shots. They also have perks for dying too many times in a row without killing anyone.

i dont think you can customize your character in MP because ur constantly switching between Army Rangers, militia and other military groups who all look different so i dont thiink thats possible, for the deathstreaks it works similar to killstreaks (kill 3 in row w/o dying = UAV) deathsteaks (die 3 times w/o killing anyone = extra health) i can see how that could get annoying if you play with a lot of noobs but it keeps them playing so i guess its okay, people will improve over time and the deathstreaks wont matter as much

Yeah, I have heard that the good people out there rarely see the death streaks.

Got about 3 1/2 hours before I'm in game playing. I'm going to do single player tonight but I might play one multiplayer game just to have a reference tomorrow when everyone's talking about it.

Okay, had to take a quick break to rest my eyes real quick. I'm 5 hours into it now. Only playing Campaign mode until I get it beat on Veteran. Haven't tried multiplayer or special ops yet. So far Campaign mode is definitely what I expected it to be! I haven't come across that famous statue in Brazil yet... you know the one they showed in the first (or second) trailer. I'm still waiting for that part.

I'm just taking a guess here, but I think I might know what that part of the game will be about because I recently learned on 60 minutes that Brazil's power grid suffered a cyber attack not too long ago and as a result they entire city lost power! So maybe that part of the game will be related to the real life event. I'm just waiting to find out if that's the case or not. Don't worry, I won't spoil it for anyone when I do figure it out though.

K time to play again... I'll let you guys know when I finish up with Campaign mode!

By the way, you might remember seeing the "LAX Airport" scene in one of the trailers... yeah... that part of the game is in-f*ing-credible!
