BioShock 2 is a first-person shooter video game, developed by 2K Marin as the sequel to the critically-acclaimed BioShock. It is due for release in late 2009 simultaneously on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 video game consoles, as well as on Microsoft Windows.

Default BioShock 2 Multiplayer Mode

It's confirmed that unlike the first BioShock, Fall of Rapture will have a multiplayer mode. There are many people, including myself, who believe there is really no need for a multiplayer mode in BioShock 2. At the same time, there are many gamers who are very excited about this!

"There's a very unique structure that ties Fall of Rapture to the core Bioshock setting. For starters, the multiplayer mode is given its own sub-heading, which is curious in itself. Clearly, this is mean to be a separate experience taken on its own merits. That said, Fall of Rapture's prequel setting has been lifted from the original games – however, each stage has been restored to its pre-'civil war' glory," says Kolan, IGN.

It's my personal feeling that the single player game will not be as Epic as the first, seeing as how additional time, effort and money has been put into the multiplayer side of this game.

Although, parts of it do sound very fun:

Kolan goes on to say, "It's also within your apartment that the story framework becomes apparent. For those wishing to jump straight into the fray, you can totally ignore all the side-story stuff on offer – but for all others (and those who want to know how all of this fits into the body of the game), you can hear pre-recorded messages that essentially catch you up on what's happening in the city of Rapture. Each time you level up (by collecting Adam from killing, assisting, hacking, becoming or killing the Big Daddy), you're treated to the next chapter."

So, what do you think? Does BioShock 2 really need multiplayer? Are you excited about it or not so much?

I don't know yet lol.
I haven't got around to playing Bioshock 1 that much.
I'm trying to get all the achievements on one run-through, maybe 2 at most.
But yeah, right now I'm working on Dead Rising.
I just got it last night.
But if we get to play as Big Daddys in the multiplayer, then that'll be kinda fun.

YuHadMeAtHal0 I heard that you can play as Big Daddy. The multiplayer should be really good. I dont think it will have any negative affect on the single player portion of the game.

I think multi player will add a cool bonus to finishing the single player game.As long as the single player wasnt compromised. The original is still one of my all time fave games.Id love to use that drill arm on someone MP!

You don't play as a big daddy in the multiplayer. The way they set up the multiplayer is as a pre-Bioshock 1. The creators of Bioshock wanted to tell the story of the fall of Rapture, since you come into the story after that took place...

The single player of Bioshock 2 takes place after Bioshock 1...but the multiplayer in Bioshock 2 takes place before Bioshock 1. You play as key people during the fall of rapture and story elements will be told.

From Slashdot -

Quote:
2K Games has revealed information about the multiplayer portion of BioShock 2, which will be developed by Digital Extremes. Multiplayer will be a prequel story that takes place prior to Rapture's fall, where "players assume the role of a Plasmid test subject for Sinclair Solutions, a premier provider of Plasmids and Tonics in the underwater city of Rapture that was first explored in the original BioShock." The press release says players will gain experience points which they can spend to gain access to "new Weapons, Plasmids and Tonics that can be used to create hundreds of different combinations, allowing players to develop a unique character that caters to their playing style." It will also expand on the BioShock story.
With this kind of attention to detail and story being shown to the multiplayer, I am crazy excited to play it! I like multiplayer, but it gets stale. I can only play CoD so much before I get very very bored. There's nothing to move me forward besides opening up a new weapon. With this though, I'll push forward to learn more about the fall of Rapture. Hell yeah!

Hmmm all this time I thought BioShock 2 was a prequel to the first BioShock, but it's just the multi-player portion of the game that's the prequel? That is cool I guess... like you said, it'll get BioShock fans to play the multi-player portion of the game for a longer period of time then they may have otherwise.

Yeah, putting a story to the multiplayer is a great way to get people to play the game and extend it's life. I'll play just to see how everything went down. Being the first pladmid test subjects sounds pretty cool and will allow for some crazy plasmid duels.
