It says that things you can patent are like machine and products, like physical items. Unless I read it wrong, nothing says claiming ideas.

You can patent a game idea...it's called an IP, or Intellectual Property. Like the article I wrote yesterday, companies end up buying IP's from each other, so, let's say you come up with a cool idea, like maybe the next gears of war type game...and EA wants to make it, they would have to pay you for the IP.
