I usually do this once a month, but since this is a pretty big one for 2009, I figured I would give it it's own post and put it on the front page. According to Major Nelson, the top games of 2009 are below. The manner in which these are calculated differ from list to list. For instance, top live titles are time spent playing while connected to XBL while top arcade titles looks at amount purchased. These results come straight from Larry Hryb (Major Nelson) on MajorNelson.com so they are 100% official.

I'm still amazed at Halo 3. I wonder when it will finally give up it's #1 position to one of the Call of Duty games... lol

Halo has a bigger fan base than MW2. It's hard to believe, but after working in a tech field for a while, I do. Halo hooked everyone back in the day with Halo 2. That was the first AMAZING online experience for people. Hell, people were still playing it when Gears of War was out. They didn't move up to the 360 until Halo 3 came out. MW2 is a newcomer and has a lot of fans, but nowhere near as many as Halo.

I actually like Halo games a little more than MW games because of the Sci-Fi aspect. A lot of people are like that. Sure, modern shooters are fun, but I would much rather blow an aliens brains out with a pew pew gun. But honestly, to me, Gears > both.

Yeah, Gears of War is awesome too! There is a rumor that Gears of War 3 will be released Q4 of this year.

I wish, but I honestly think that's too soon. Whenever a big game is released, they almost always give it a full year of ads and stuff. But, I have seen stranger things.

Yeah I would believe it more if you start trailers and nice little hints that could be ligget. Gears seams to be a little more sneaky in there adds than most other games.

I thought about playing Gears over the weekend but decided against it. I would love to see some news about it. You haven't heard much about Cliffy B. in the news, so the news hound that he is is probably dying for some face time. Rest assured when they're ready, they will send the douche, err, I mean dude out
