In the business world, there's something called an earnings call. This is when all the big wigs hop on the phone and talk about how they are doing and where they see their products or services going in the next fiscal year/quarter. Activision Blizzard recently had one in which the CEO of Activision lost a lot of cred amongst the gaming populace.
Apparently, while on the earnings call, someone by the name of Michael J. Griffith answered a question from someone named "Tony" about price points:

And then on the second question, Tony, on the pricing, we’ve had for all of our launch titles in the back half of this year, some of which contain peripherals, as you point out, very strong retailer acceptance and support for all parts of our plan, including our merchandising plans, our marketing programs, and our price points.

Not a big deal...but what is a big deal is what Activision CEO Bobby Kotick had to add:
Quote:

And Tony, you know if it was left to me, I would raise the prices even further.

Take that and read it whatever way you want. But if the execs are thinking about it, I doubt paying $70 for a game isn't too far in the future. Nothing like companies screwing their consumers...all for the almighty dollar.
In doing research for this article, I found that Jim Sterling over at
Destructoid had a great plan to fight back against this. Let's all buy used games from now on, especially when it comes to Activision. I usually hold off on buying used games because I want the people involved in making the game to get money for a well made product. But if these are the decisions going on behind closed doors and price increases are being talked about not because of operating costs but rather because of greed alone, to hell with you...I'll play your games, but I ain't gonna pay you for it! Gamestop, here I come!
