A lot of the stats we come across have to do with American numbers. Sometimes we will have PAL figures (Europe) thrown in, but for the vast majority of posts, I'm on the lookout for US sales figures because that's were most of our userbase is from (with the rest making up PAL territories). Well, here is an interesting post I found on the net, the world's top selling games of 2009. This is taking into consideration, well, everywhere. The results aren't all that surprising, especially when you take into consideration that the Nintendo Wii is not only huge here in the US but double so in Japan where it comes from. So, without further adiue, I give you the world's top selling games of 2009.
If you have trouble reading that, the games are Modern Warfare 2 with 11.86 million units sold, Wii Sports Resort with 7.57, New Super Mario Bros. Wii with 7.41, Wii Fit Plus with 5.8, and finally Wii Fit with 5.44.
I figured Call of Duty would be number 1 since it was the biggest release in video games and movies ever. That release broke some serious records and it's still selling really well. The other games though sort of puzzle me. How is the Wii Fit still in the top seller list, I would have thought everyone that wanted one got it already. The Mario Bros. Wii game was huge at Christmas time also with a lot of the stores around me in Baltimore, MD being sold out of it. Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort are both new from last year so no big shocker there. I guess we have to be thankful that this list didn't include 5 Wii games. Man, those games really do sell don't they?
