Default EA Considering Charging for Game Demos...Sort Of...

A recent article over at Kotaku.com, broke news that Electronic Arts plan to expand their digital distribution business to account for approximately 1/3 of their total business. How do they plan to do this? Marketing, but more specifically, for charging for long game demos. Now, before you storm out your front door, read the rest of the article...then grab your pitch fork.

Brian Crecente over at Kotaku.com documented a recent analyst visit to EA Redwood City HQ where the talks took place with execs. According to the article, "One of Electronic Arts strategies will be to release what they call "premium downloadable content" on the Playstation Network and Xbox Live for $10 to $15 and then later release the full game for a full price." These premium downloadable content items have been described by an analyst as being a "very long demo."

If this is indeed true, and EA decide to start charging for long game demo's, would you buy it? One of the games they mentioned was Battlefield 1943. It sold on XBLA and was basically just a multiplayer game...no single player, no nothing. This could be described as a "very long demo." When the final product comes out, if you bought the final game you'd be buying the same thing you previously bought so that is something to keep in mind. What do you guys think?

It's just reverse of what they do already. Here buy this game then we will have you pay 15 bucks for a DLC that is really already on the disc. So now its here buy this DLC then buy the disc that the DLC already has the first few chapters or a online game play etc.

When you're right, you're right. Hit it on the head...that's exactly what they are trying to do. They are trying to find more ways to force DLC down our throats. Someone probably said, "How do we get the people who were excited about playing our game but maybe finished it to buy DLC?" Then someone responded..."Give it to them while they are still excited!"

That's what they are doing. They notice that after a game comes out, people get less and less excited about stuff with the game since they either beat it, or played it and didn't like it, etc. So, by giving them DLC before the game comes out, they make a shit ton more money because the hype meter is still at critical levels. It's a smart business move, but buyer beware!

Stemple ride that rocket to WOW Power Leveling 2006, when he

sold Skinit Global Wireless Entertainment, his first Aion Gold

partner and the society that it create the business model that they become an integral part of Skinit had

success helped. Rather than focusing on individual retail, Stemple took the product directly into the

large companies WOW Gold in the consumer electronics, offering to

all but them free use of its technology - and help you build it directly in their companies - in exchange

for their customers. He also Buy WOW Gold met with Final Fantasy Gil, Major

League Baseball and Disney, and was able to secure licensing rights from all of them within a year. All it

took for each of them to sign was to see a product.
