Default Next Medal of Honor in Modern Times?

UK Site MCV recently had an interview with a "reliable inside source" who told the online site that the next Medal of Honor will take place in Modern times. The source claims that the company knows they need to give their brand name a "kick in the arse that it needs" as well as, no doubt, steal some of the shares of Modern Warfare 2 away from it's competitor.

The source claims that the release date of this "Modern Warfare" game will be sometime in late February/early March 2010 and an announcement will come out before Christmas this year. Hell, I remember when Medal of Honor was the premier World War 2 shooter and most people loved the series. I would love to see it make the jump to modern times and compete with Modern Warfare 2. If there's one thing that's a given, being the industry leader without competition often causes complacency...and that's one thing we don't want Infinity Ward to feel. Keep the playing field hot and give us some options. I'm sure the products turned out because of it will be that much better because of it. I'll keep an eye on this story and update you all if I find anything else out. As of right now though, this is a rumor.

Medal of Honor used to be the most popular WW2 FPS game on the market. I played the first one and allied assault on the PC and I know Alex (my brother, SpikedDeception on the forums) was a huge fan of the multiplayer. He was always playing that in his room.

Gosh... Yeah, I remember playing "Medal of Honor: Frontlines", and the D-Day Invasion was so monumental at the time. It was amazing...

But you're right, Allied Assault was one of my favorite online multiplayer shooters for quite sometime. It was just so easy to hop right on and go at it. I'm not quite sure how it died out for me, but... I tried going back and it's not the same.

As for modern times... I'm in favor of this. We've seen what World War II was, and we've exhausted every possible scenario, even the ones that were lesser known - that is, Medal of Honor: Rising Sun and Call of Duty: World at War - so it's refreshing to see that they're embracing this... "revolution". Hell, I was a fan of Medal of Honor before I even heard of Call of Duty, so maybe MoH can win me back.

I want to see a good civil war game. Yeah, it would take a minute to reload after every shot, but I want customizable beards. That would be cool.

Of course, Darkest of Days tried it, but failed miserably. It was such a wonderful premise - go back in time to fight some of history's greatest battles - but instead of doing the smart thing and just having a different chapter for each battle, they LITERALLY sent you back in time to each battle as the same man, not a soldier from each. You know what *that* means: futuristic weapons.

Let's be honest here: who doesn't want to go back to the civil war and fight with an assault rifle?

Hint: Me.

This is good news I wonder how it will compare to the Call of Duty modern series! It's hard to imagine this Medal of Honor modern warfare game could be any better than Call of Duty's, but imagine if it was... that would be amazing. I'll play it when it comes out, I just hope it's not a total let down. It's been a LONG time since I've played any Medal of Honor.

They just need to avoid the pitfalls. If they come out guns blazing and try to out maneuver MW2 with flashy helicopter chases and nukes going off in major cities, they will fail miserably. What they need to do instead is focus on what MW2 skipped/didn't pay much attention to...story, character growth, and human emotion. MW2 had all the blockbuster explosions and was awesome for it...but the story didn't captivate me like the first. I think that's because they didn't pay much attention to the characters. Sure, I was playing Roach, but who the hell was he besides someone with either a bug reference name or a marijuana reference name.

MW2 made up for the lack of story, characters, etc. by putting in an awesome multiplayer experience and co-op. If MoH skips making a revolutionary online experience and puts everything into single player, they will have one hell of a game. They're not going to be able to beat MW2...so they might as well not even try. The only competition to MW2 coming out soon is Battlefield bad Company, which is supposed to have an awesome MP.

So that's my $.02

Good point. I think IW understands a majority of it's customers buy the game for the online multiplayer as apposed to single player. Sure, there are plenty of people who play through the campaign, but how many people got MW2 and went straight to multiplayer without even looking at single player?
