Default Sony Brings Trophy Browsing Online

Sony has always been behind the curve when it comes to their trophies. In all honesty, and every PS3 fan can attest to it, they were released to combat the wildly popular achievements on the competition - the Xbox 360. While they got off to a rocky start with only a handful of games having them, they are now mandatory and all games released after January 1st, 2009 MUST contain them. To withhold trophies would almost mean certain death...from a financial standpoint at least.

One thing Sony never did though when it came to trophies was make them functional. Sure, you could unlock them during games and view them on your PS3, but besides that, you were SOL...until now. Sony has released a video and a promise, by weekend, users will be able to view and compare trophies online and create a gamercard that shows off their trophies to others. Sure, Xbox fans are rolling their eyes thinking "we've had this since 2005", but PS3 fans haven't. It might not be anything groundbreaking on Sony's behalf, but at the very least it shows they are listening to the community.

Check out the video below for a little walkthrough of the new features.

Oh wow, I didn't know that! That's actually very good news for you PS3 guys. It would be nice if there was a website like MGC for PS3 trophies. Or maybe MGC will also cover PS3 trophies in addition to 360 achievements. That would be sweet! Then maybe we can add a PS3 Leaderboard to the website like we have a XBL Leaderboard! It's about time SONY.

There is one for UK people, but not for US...until after this week that is. The UK website for PS3 has had PS3 trophies and stuff for a while now. This update is basically bring it to the US. You'll see some sites popping up after this update that shows PS3 trophy support.

And yeah, all games need to have trophies and some older games are getting trophies. One game that I can think of that recently got trophy support was Fallout 3. I originally got Fallout 3 for the PS3 (since it came out right around when I got my PS3) but later traded it in for the DLC. Everyone is waiting for MGS4 to get trophy support but Konami has remained tight lipped...although they have mentioned they are looking into it. Rest assured, if they do post it, it'll be in the news section, lol.

Sounds good. This is one step forward for the PS3 people. I'm sure I will have one someday, but not anytime soon

Wait out the price drop. You have some time too. Sony is predicting a 10 year life cycle for the PS3...which actually means about 7-8. It's only been 3.
