Star Wars and Bioshock Lend Clothing To Your Avatars

So, today's the day. If you weren't selected as a beta tester for the dashboard update, you'll be receiving it today. When you check out the new features, you'll see the new avatar store where you can pay real money for fake clothing. Yeah, I'm not the biggest supporter of this, but I have to admit, some of the clothing choices coming out are pretty damn cool.

Just announced to be released to the avatar store are clothing options from Star Wars and Bioshock. So, when you think of these two names, what comes to mind? Let me guess...

A Lightsaber...?




and a Big Daddy?

Honestly, that big daddy helmet is pretty freaking sweet. I'm half tempted to download it. Thanks go to Kotaku for posting the screens of these neat new features. I haven't had a chance to check them out myself yet. I'm just worried they are going to release Mass Effect clothing...which if that happens, I'll be forced to buy them all!

I still think it's a joke they are charging for this...but there are some items I think I'm going to be forced to buy. The big daddy helmet, unfortunately, is one of them.

So are there going to be some free ones then? Some clothes or accessories that will not need to be paid for?

From what I hear...yes. They aren't going to be as cool as the ones you buy, but there will be free ones.

Next time you are on your 360, hit the xbox button on your controller. Scroll to the left and you'll see an "awards" option. Right there, that is where unlocked stuff is supposed to appear from in games. For example, let's say Gears 3 comes out and they have an award that if you kill 100,000 locust, you get a tshirt. The award would display there and the tshirt would be available in your avatar store for free. No games have been confirmed to do this, but they wouldn't put it there if it wasn't going to happen. I always thought this was an awesome idea and honestly, is better than achievements. Achievements are imaginary numbers you really can't display. Imaginary clothing on the other hand, can be displayed.

Oh alright. That's good, sorta. At least they will have some free unlockables for your Avatar. That's better than none. I was originally hoping that all items would be achieved via unlocking them throughout gameplay and I never thought they would charge for something like that. The thought never even crossed my mind. But once it was announced that I wouldnt be free is when I started thinking that the video game developers weren't too excited about the extra work in creating the clothing and accessories for free!

Yeah, that's a damn good point. They need to be reimbursed for the work involved...and the creative minds behind the games want compensation for you wearing (virtually nonetheless) something they thought up.

I'm excited about the unlockable "awards" though. They could really knock it out of the park if they did this correctly. PS3 tried to do this with Home. The only problem was that Playstation home sucks so bad no one wants to visit it.
