First thoughts on playing this game

I know I'm a year or so behind but I just started to play this game yesterday. I almost finished it just have the final act to complete. I wanted to share what I thought of the game (game play/story/new/old).

First I would like to say that they did it right by keeping over all game play the same took me awhile to adjust back to it from MW but I expected that. I will start with the things I liked: Brought back old characters while introducing new ones, Brought back some weapons and introd some awesome upgraded ones (I love the shield pistol combo especially the new pistol), the crawl function, I liked the vehicles you drove/rode on, in it, I loved the new enemies with new tactics, I liked the story line of the locust taking prisoners that was new it makes me wonder why, it could be just for torture but why would they take stranded who have no military secrets I almost thought they may be cloning them or brainwashing to some extent.

Some things that I didn't like: Dom's story line I hated the save-the-wife subplot and that’s just because they didn't introduce the notion that he was married or cared for anyone in the first game (If this was the first game would have been more natural). So to have that in there doesn't flow I was hoping for more of Marcus's story. Reavers I liked the first few battles with them after that it just was time consuming and I thought really slowed the game play down. I didn't like that half-way trough the game I felt like I was playing Halo, the shire=the flood in that you shoot them down they jump back up a computer is talking to you like in halo the tickers fell like the little things in halo. Then when you are storming the castle I felt that way again by the locust fighting mutant locust.

Overall another great gaming experience.

I agree with you on your agrees but disagree on some of your didn't likes.

The reason they focus on Dom for the emotional story is because Marcus is so gruff. They can't really give him a love interest because people would look at it and say...yeah right...he has a couple hookers before bed and calls it a night. It's just not believable. Dom is the emotional attachment in the game. Dom's wife has been in the storyline for a while now and he has always been trying to find her. I'm actually reading the book and even in the book he talks about his kids dying and Maria running off never to be seen again. It's pretty emotional especially when you...

see her come out all perfect and then the realization hits that she is completely and utterly broken. When Dom has to put a bullet through her head, my mouth hit the floor.

I agree with the rest though. I didn't like Gears 2 as much as I liked the first. I think it's because the first introduced so much and was so grand scale that it was hard to not like. The second continued the story but not much...I feel like nothing really happened, it just kind of moved the story along. I have high hopes for the third one though. And I doubt Microsoft will allow this game to stop at a trilogy. We'll be seeing more of it.

I'm not saying a love intrest, give me more background, about the previous wars, why did he go to help his dad, why is his dad on the recording at the locust city? I don't think the "Love interest" works at all in the story just because of all that is going on and the caracters that are protraid in gears one.

I think Marcus's dad and that storyline are going to define number 3, that's why they didn't really dive too much into that. If you want to know about the previous war, read the book.

WARNING Possible Spoiler:

The book is all about the Pendulum Wars and it's actually really good, even if you aren't a big fan. You learn that Marcus is actually really really smart and he was kind of a dork when he was young. His parents never paid him much attention so he hung out at Dom's house all the time. He lived in a mansion and the guards/mains were more friends than his parents.

It's really good!
