This is the first time the series has a game developed for a next gen console. There are two types of control schemes, classic or the new control system. The developers wanted to have progressive controls compared to that of Gears. The development team in
Japan also wanted to provide the best lighting effects, so they took the time to perfect it. There is also a large emphasis on co-op
play. You can battle enemies with a friend online or utilize the local play option. You can drop in through PSN or XBL. You can send an invite to friends to join you in the good fight to find and destroy the T-virus. This is the focus of the game as you would expect. If not you won’t have a problem keeping track of your AI character, Sheva Alomar, while you play as Chris Redfield. Players will be able to store a suitable amount of weapons and items in their inventory. As well as buy items for their inventory and sell with the other player. The save feature has been updated to a checkpoint. So if you die or quit you will go back to the last save point in the game. Exploration is a big part of this game with goodies hiding in nooks and crannies. The enemies that I saw were various from undead to soldiers to a giant bat creature that resembles a giant scorpion-wasp. One of the enemies looked like the original Jason sporting the pillowcase wielding a chainsaw. The level design looks great with the three levels I saw previewed. Since the game takes place in
Africa there was a lot of desert and rocks where an intense Boss battle took place with the giant bat infected by the T-virus. This battle took place in the daytime and the lighting was great. Another level was at an oil refinery where everything seemed to be on fire. With explosions going on, it made a nice setting for a gun battle with the undead. And the third level was inside a base. Where there was also interaction with a NPC who was trying to assist Chris by activating a computer, while Sheva was providing cover, searching for any enemies that may have been approaching. Not much has been said about the weapons except for the obvious sniper rifle, machete on the backpack of Chris, and a shotgun. There will be more details as the launch date approaches which is March 19 2009. I am looking forward to delving deeper into this game which is following the game of the year winner RE4.
